Parent Update 12th July 2024

Horsmonden Parent Update

Dear Parents

I am delighted to share with you the amazing academic achievements of our Year 6 children following the results of their Statutory Assessments Tests being issued this week.

In May they sat their SATs in Reading, Maths and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. The results are used by the DfE to measure attainment at the end of KS2 across the country before children move onto the next phase of their education.

Our Year 6 children have done exceptionally well, beating the national averages in all subjects! I am thrilled with the results, which, along with our Ofsted Report in October, confirm what a great job all the staff at Horsmonden Primary Academy are doing for your children. We have such a talented team of teachers, teaching assistants and support staff who are all proud to be a part of such a special community.

Here’s what our CEO Simon Beamish had to say about our results:  “The children’s achievements are exceptional and place Horsmonden Primary Academy well above all national average measures. These achievements are reflected across other year groups. It is quite clear that staff at Horsmonden Primary Academy are providing outstanding opportunities for children which are helping to improve their life chances everyday”.

Reports

You will shortly be receiving your child’s end of year report which will be found in the ‘Reports’ section of MCAS. For parents with children in Year 1 and Year 6, you should have already received the results of their national assessments in Phonics and SATs respectively, also found in the ‘Reports’ section of MCAS.

FoHPS

FoHPS have worked tirelessly again this year to raise money for everyone who attends  Horsmonden Primary Academy. Once again, I am absolutely blown away by how generous parents are and can reveal that over £9000 has been raised this year alone! For a full breakdown please see the attached flyer.

This year, following the change in Chair and some committee members, both Kerry and Gemma have led the team well introducing some new ideas while keeping the old favourites! It was always going to be a challenge taking over from such a long standing, well established FoHPS team, but I feel they rose to the challenge and have done a fantastic job.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to FoHPS this year – your contributions, no matter how small, have helped to make this year a success!

A special thank you must go to Sam Watson, who has resigned after 5 years on the committee. She has been a fantastically committed member of the team, who has had to balance her demanding job with volunteering on FoHPS, to ensure events are well organised and fun for the children. You will be sorely missed Sam!

Another special thank you goes to Kerry Clark who will be standing down from her position of Co-Chair. Kerry has worked tirelessly all year and was one of the driving forces behind the installation of the gym equipment that all children love so much. Kerry will remain in the committee, thankfully (!) and continue to make a difference on FoHPS next year.

Show your England pride!

To celebrate the Three Lions’ amazing run in the Euros, this coming Monday is a special non-uniform day, irrespective of the result on Sunday! Children are permitted to wear their football kits or red and white clothing. To participate, please donate between £1 and £5 via MCAS. All funds raised will go to supporting our partner school, Chapita Primary, in Malawi. Let’s cheer on England and give back in the process!

Clubs

Curricular Clubs will start the week beginning 15th September. This will ensure our new families have plenty of time to get set up on MCAS and familiarise themselves with the app and how to make bookings. A letter with further details including which clubs will be available to book will be sent out in due course. Don’t forget booking for ‘Magical Maths’ is open and for more details please see the Magical Maths Flyer

Academy name change – uniform

Further to previous Parent Updates, I am reminding parents that from September we will be known as Leigh Academy Horsmonden, not Horsmonden Primary Academy. Please see a copy of the original letter here

All existing and pre-loved uniforms can continue to be worn next year but for anyone wishing to purchase a new uniform for the new year, orders placed with Brigade from 1st June will be embroidered with the new name. The deadline for ordering uniforms to be delivered to parents before the start of the new school year is 2nd August.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and here’s hoping England are victorious on Sunday!!

Kind regards
Hayley Sharp | Principal
